I’d send you a box
of that candy stuff
in the shape of a double helix,
but in the store where I went
they only sell hearts.
I went to the feller
that fixes cars,
and I asked
him for a radio
that plays flowers.
I wanted something
that says, you are the oracle
for which I’ve been waiting,
like that newspaper article
about a break in the cold.
The water in the brook
runs quick and clear.
The air is like an electric spark,
waiting for a fragrance
to calm it down.
He said, “No,
there’s no such thing.”
but when I thought
of you
the snow was gone,
even from the roof
of the car,
and roses, roses,
they smelled
like they were about to bloom.
