Notes for the End of the World
Retirement is easy. You’ll just get bored, they say.
But it’s all those leisure activities that get to me.
So I gather them up, perusing all the public notices,
The newspapers, write them into my calendar;
But keeping them straight
Becomes more and more confusing: So on Wednesday
I go to the Thursday meeting, and the lecture
On Finances that was for Wednesday
Gets left in the lurch. Just now
I noticed that the golf lesson, and the tennis match
For retirees, are both at the same time.
Listen, the world
Is not set up properly for me.
Maybe I’d better go back to work.
Then I had so much more time.
