The Red Wagon

The Red Wagon

There is a sense of anxiety,
the need to assuage a feeling, an obligation,
one which is rarely ever satisfied,
even by what he does. For example,
he built a red wagon,
and twice a day rolls
his paraplegic dog to the park;
Just one or two times around the paths;
and one stop for the necessities.

Having done his due
he quietly caresses this gentle pet;
and they are on their way.

As an improvisation
this too will serve,
though he is never quite sure
that the help he has given
will have any meaningful significance.
